Our Location

Located on the East shores of the beautiful Black Lake near Onaway Michigan. Our resort offers a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. With breathtaking views of the lake, sandy beach, swimming, boating and fishing.    


The rustic and comfortable accommodations create a relaxing atmosphere with beautiful views of the lake and surroundings. 


Our location is perfect for those seeking peace and relaxation.

Our Accommodations

We offer a selection of comfortable rustic accommodations to suit your needs, with 4 beach front cabins, 2 near lake cabins, a river front cabin and a spacious 3 bedroom home. All of our cabin rooms are designed with a rustic charm and your comfort in mind, to ensure a relaxing stay.


  • Each cabin has a screened-in porch with picnic table and grill 
  • Clean sandy beach
  • Campfire area open to everyone, weather pending
  •  A 14’ aluminum fishing boat is supplied with each cottage. Guests are also welcome to bring an outboard motor (up to 10 HP) to put on the provided boat 
  • Boat ramp
  • Boat docks with plenty of room for your boat

Following Lynn's policies,  the following still applies.


  •  Guests must furnish bed sheets (full size) and towels.  


  •  Pillows, blankets, spreads and mattress pads are provided. 


  • WIFI will be in every unit.  Bring you Chrome stick, Roku or what every WIFI device you use to watch television, in case the weather doesn't cooperate.


  • DISH is not available

  • Check-in time starts at 2 PM Saturday afternoon, and check-out time is 9 AM Saturday morning..


  • Smoking or Vaping is not allowed in any of the rental units or on the cabin porch..


  • Sorry, we do not allow pets.


  • No Electric bikes, hoverboards, or scooters can be stored inside cabins or on cabin porch.

2025 Labor Day Special! Check in on August 23th and stay until September 1st at our regular weekly rate (2 extra days). 


Reservations will be taken on a first come, first served basis so don’t wait!


Check-in time is 2 PM Saturday August 24th and check-out time is 9 AM Monday September  2nd

    How it Started

    New Owners, Schell's Commitment

    All Things Change

    Bob and Lynn Schell acquired ownership of the Schell family resort from Bob's uncle, Charles Schell Jr., in 1970. 


    They have  have owned and operated Schell's Resort for over 53 plus years! They have enjoyed the privilege of welcoming new and returning guests year after year and building many strong friendships. 


    Their continued commitment to ensuring their guests' stay is enjoyable and relaxing is an example of why many families are in their third and fourth generation of vacationing at Schell's Resort on Black Lake.

    Bob and Lynn had decided they were going to retire and put the resort up for sale in 2023.  Bob and Lynn waited until they found people that they thought would take care of their guests.  Many of whom had become good friends over the years..


    Late in October 2023, two people came knocking at the door to ask about the resort.  After Lynn did a complete tour of the resort, all the time saying "she wasn't  a realtor", the couple decided to become part of the history of Schell's Resort.


    January 2024, Schell's Resort has new owners.

    We are Bryan and Denise Udell, the new owners.  Our vision for the resort is very much then same as Bob and Lynn's. 


     A commitment to ensuring that our guests have a stay that is enjoyable and relaxing.  Also, to continue the same warm hospitably and help ensure that there will be continued generational vacationing at Schell's Resort.


    We are looking forward to making new friends and growing the Schell's Resort "family"
